Coriander seeds podi/ Vera kothamalli podi


Coriander seeds are inevitable in Indian cooking, an aromatic spice with lots of minerals, dietary fiber and a good source of vitamin B. It helps you to avoid bloating & indigestion. So my mom used to prepare this & store it & asked us to eat with rice weekly once. Very simple but highly beneficial podi. I’m posting it knowing the medicinal value of the coriander seeds. Definitely do prepare & store it as it has a long shelf life.

  • Coriander seeds/Dhaniya-1/4 cup  
  • Red chili- 2 or 3
  • A tiny piece of tamarind
  • Salt to taste


   Dry roast coriander seeds , until it started getting light brown, frying gives a good aroma.  Then dry roast red chilli & tamarind.Allow it to cool & then grind it into a fine powder & store it in an airtight container. Mix it with hot rice & sesame oil & have it daily to avoid digestive problems. Just one or two tablespoons of this rice would do wonders.

All these podis in store is highly helpful. Some days I simply cook rice & we used to have podi variety rice with a vegetable or fryums…..a healthy ….tasty….simple meal is ready in a jiffy.
