Instant oats Idli


Are you looking for a different version of idli? Then here’s one which you can make within an hour , instantly….. great relief from grinding , mixing and fermenting the batter. Instant oats idli, tempting soft idlis…..make a difference by trying this. This can be taken for breakfast or dinner.

💠quick cooking oatmeal – 1 cup

💠semolina/rava/sooji – 1/2 cup

💠Buttermilk, thick – 1 cup

💠Grated / Finely chopped carrot -1/4 cup

💠 Finely chopped green bell pepper – 1/4 cup

💠Green chilli -1 or 2

💠 Ginger -1/2  tablespoon finely chopped

💠To temper, any vegetable oil, mustard seeds, jeera & chana dal ( 1 1/2 tablespoon)

💠 chopped cashew nuts – 2 tablespoon

💠A sprig of curry leaves

💠salt to taste

💠Baking powder -1/4 teaspoon



– First dry roast oats and grind it into a powder and keep aside.


– In that pan, heat 2 tablespoons of oil & temper it with mustard, jeera & chana dal.Then Sauté it with finely chopped ginger and green chillies.Then add curry leaves, cashews, bell pepper and grated carrot & fry a little. To this add the semolina & fry for 4 to 5 mins, until the raw smell goes off.

– Add this mixture to powdered oats and whisk it well with buttermilk and salt. If required , add water to adjust the batter to thick pouring consistency. Allow it to rest for 15 minutes. It might get thicker a little & so adjust the consistency by adding one or two tablespoons of water.

– In the mean time apply oil to idli moulds . Then add baking powder to the batter and mix well.

-pour batter into the moulds and steam boil it for 10 minutes. Serve hot with any spicy chutney/ dip/ sambar/podi.
